GeoServer is an open source server for managing geographic information system (GIS) data sources and serving them easily through Web Feature Service (WFS) and Web Map Service (WMS) web services. It in
cludes a comprehensive Representational State Transfer (REST) API for managing data at run time from complex web applications without manual intervention, and it works well in tandem with the OpenLayers mapping tool. This article introduces and explores GeoServer, including the benefits of creating a PHP wrapper class for the API.
