First observation of CP violation in the decays of B0s meson

The LHCb collaboration has just submitted for publication a paper which sets an important milestone in the history of particle physics. A difference between properties of matter and antimatter, named CP violation by particle physicists, was discovered in 1964 in the decays of neutral K mesons and was rewarded with the 1980 Nobel prize in physics for James Cronin and Val Fitch.

Recent results on Higgs studies at ATLAS and CMS

Krisztian Peters, presenting on behalf of the ATLAS experiment and Chiara Mariotti, presenting on behalf of the CMS experiment, both commented on the excellent performance of the LHC. A total dataset of approximately 25fb-1 was delivered to ATLAS over the first run, with CMS having around 23fb-1 with an average of 21 interactions per bunch crossing.

LIU 2013: Injector teams present status

During its second year, in 2012, the preparation of the upgrades of the LHC Injectors progressed well. The injector teams learned to understand many aspects of beam performance, and defined ways of mitigating performance limitations. Major steps forward were made in the design and test of future equipment.

LS1 report: Across the accelerator complex

The warm-up of the first LHC sector (5-6) is now complete; it is at room temperature for the first time in over three years. Next week, the W bellows in this sector will be opened in preparation for the consolidation of the superconducting circuits, splices and interconnections (the SMACC project).

A first layout for the High Luminosity LHC

A first baseline for the layout of the High Luminosity inner triplet and associated magnets has recently been defined. This is the second major milestone, after the choice of a 150 mm aperture for the quadrupoles in July 2012.
